Walmart in Kapolei, Hawaii

The new Walmart located in Kapolei, Hawaii on the island of Oahu continues to be constructed pretty quickly.  As of Sep 5, 2011, the roof is about 50% completed.

It is located in the city of Kapolei at the intersection of Kamokila Blvd and Ft. Barrett Road just south of the H-1 Highway.  Across the street from the Walmartis a Chilis restaurant and a variety of other stores.  Kapolei continues to grow and is no doubt becoming the “Second City” of Oahu as promised in years past.

With the newDisney Aulani Resort opening last week in Koolina, this Walmart will be much needed to service the workers atDisney Aulani as well as the guests of the hotel/timeshare.

It is foolhardy to support further commercial development along the very narrow Leeward Coast corridor. These types of super-sized developments continue to take away from the beauty and rarity of our island home, leaving in its wake unnecessary congestion and only future problems. The argument that projects like these create jobs and convenience are perpetuated by greedy developers and short-sighted constituents, and should be overshadowed by their negative long-term effects.

I hear you Tiare. Of course, I just report the information and I am not the one doing the developing. I have some friends tha own what used to be “beautiful lots” in Kapolei Knolls and now they have “beautiful lots” with a view of the roof of the new Wal Mart. I would have much rather seen the Super Ferry stay in business!
